First aid kit builder
Count your busiest shift and see the box Ontario asks for and who needs which certificate. Count each box as a tray, and print the lid card and sign.
Help and background Back to the tool
How it works
- 1 Add each shift and the most people working at once. The busiest one sets the box and the first aid certificate for every shift.
- 2 Add your first aiders, their level and the date on their certificate. It shows which shifts are covered and when a certificate runs out.
- 3 Open each box and count it against the list. The tray fills as you go, and the shopping list adds up what’s missing.
- 4 Log the check every three months, print the card for inside the lid, the inspection card and the station sign, and save calendar reminders.
Free, with no account. Everything is worked out in your browser: first aiders’ names, your boxes and the check log stay on this device and are never sent to us. Remember is off unless you turn it on. Anything typed about an injury is never kept, and it never asks who was hurt.
Good to know
- Who has to have a first aid box?
- Every business in Ontario that the WSIB covers. Regulation 1101 sets what goes in the box by the number of people on a shift: one list for 1 to 5, a bigger one for 6 to 15, and more again from 16, with a stretcher and two blankets.
- Basic and Intermediate
- Since June 22, 2026 the WSIB calls the certificates Basic First Aid (it was Emergency) and Intermediate First Aid (it was Standard). Certificates with the old names still count until they expire, three years after they were issued.
- Every three months
- Each box is checked at least once a quarter, and the inspection card beside it is dated and signed. The card, the first aiders’ certificates and the WSIB’s Form 82 poster go on a notice board with the box.
- When it goes past first aid
- Record every time first aid is given. If someone needs health care, or loses time or pay, the business reports it to the WSIB within three business days of learning about it, and gives the worker a copy.
- Nothing to swallow
- No pills, creams or ointments in the box: first aiders aren’t trained to give them. Gloves and a CPR mask are worth adding.
