Fridge & freezer log
Log every fridge and freezer at each round in one go. A warm reading starts the clock, and the month prints for the binder.
Help and background Back to the tool
How it works
- 1 Add each fridge and freezer you keep food in, and the times you read them, like opening and closing.
- 2 At each round, type every unit's temperature and your initials, then log them in one go. Above the line? Say what you did, and the panel counts the time since that unit was last known cold.
- 3 The power went out? Tap it, and the panel shows how long each unit holds with the door shut. At the end of the month, print the log for the binder.
Free, with no account. The readings, initials and notes stay on this device and are never sent to us. If you ask it to, this device remembers your log for next time; the made-up example is never kept. Save a copy as a spreadsheet file any time.
Good to know
- Is this food-safety advice?
- No. Guidance, not food-safety advice. The lines come from Ontario's food premises regulation, Health Canada and Peel Region's power outage sheet. Where a detail is less certain, it says (verify). Your public health inspector can say what applies to you.
- What temperatures should they be?
- Fridges at 4 °C or colder, and freezers at −18 °C or colder. A reading above that is marked, and the tool suggests reading it again in 30 minutes.
- What's the 2-hour clock?
- A thermometer only tells you the temperature when you look. If a fridge reads warm, the food may have been warm any time since it last read cold. Peel's sheet uses 2 hours above 4 °C as the line for perishables, so the clock runs from that last cold reading.
- I forgot to write it down. Can I add it later?
- Yes. Tick “Read earlier” and say when. Readings written up more than an hour after are marked † on the log and the printed sheet. That's honest, and better than a gap.
- How do I check the thermometer?
- Stir ice and cold water in a glass, wait a minute and hold the probe in the middle. It should read 0 °C. Log the check, and the tool reminds you when a reading is close to the line.
- How do I print the log?
- On US Letter, landscape, at 100% or “Actual size”. A row a day, a column for each unit at each round, the initials, what was done and a line for whoever reviews it. Or print a blank one to fill in by hand.
