Lesson package builder
Price a term, a pack and a single lesson so the deal is clear, then print the price sheet and quote a family in seconds.
Help and background Back to the tool
How it works
- 1 Put in what you teach and your regular price for one lesson at each length. The tool shows what each comes to an hour, so a 45-minute price that's out of line stands out.
- 2 Set the term: the first lesson, the day, how many weeks and the weeks off. Then choose how families can pay: the whole term, a pack to use within a few weeks, or one lesson at a time, each with its own discount.
- 3 The ladder shows what a lesson really costs on each plan, so the term is clearly the best deal. Print the price sheet, copy it for your website, or quote a family with siblings, fees and instalment dates worked out.
Free, with no account. Students in a quote are numbered, not named, and your prices and quotes are never sent to us, put in a link or saved, unless you tick Remember to keep them on this device.
Good to know
- Do music lessons get GST/HST?
- Often not. CRA treats music lessons as exempt when the instruction is structured and builds step by step, at any level, and tutoring as exempt when it follows a school curriculum. Lessons for fun in other subjects usually aren't exempt. See CRA: tutoring and equivalent services.
- When do I have to register?
- Once your taxable sales pass $30,000 in a single calendar quarter or over four quarters in a row, you're no longer a small supplier. Exempt lessons don't count toward that. See CRA: when to register and charge GST/HST.
- Why price the term against single lessons?
- Families compare. When the single-lesson price sits at the top of the ladder and the term at the bottom, paying ahead is the easy choice, and you get a full term booked and paid instead of a week at a time.
- How big should the term discount be?
- That's your call. The tool warns when a pack costs no less than single lessons, when a pack beats the term, or when a sibling discount stacks up more than you may have meant, so the ladder still makes sense to a family.
- What about missed lessons?
- Step 6 sets how much notice you need and how many make-ups a family gets. The price sheet and every quote carry the same rule, word for word, so nobody hears a different one.
- Is this tax advice?
- No. It does the arithmetic on the prices you put in and points you to CRA's own pages. Provincial sales tax rules are your own to check. Guidance, not tax or legal advice.
