Required signs finder
Every sign your shop has to put up, room by room, with the official ones linked and the rest ready to print.

How it works
- 1 Say what kind of shop you run and where in Ontario, how many doors, washrooms and tills you have, and whether you serve food or alcohol, sell tobacco or vapes, record on camera or have staff.
- 2 It walks the shop room by room: each sign, how many copies, how big, where it goes, where to get it and why. Tick each one as it goes up, and the map fills in.
- 3 Print the signs that have no set design, a size check page for the No smoking signs, and a checklist for the wall. The official signs are linked, never redrawn.
Free, with no account. Everything happens in your browser: your answers and anything you type on a sign are never sent to us, put in a link or logged. Remember is off unless you turn it on, and then keeps your answers and ticks on this device only. Nobody's name is asked for; the first aid and committee forms print blank, to fill in by hand.
Guidance, not legal advice. Your public health unit, city and fire department may ask for more.
Good to know
- Why the official signs are links, not printouts
- The No smoking and No vaping signs, the tobacco and vape retailer signs, Sandy's Law and the workplace posters all have an official design. Get them from the source (your public health unit, the AGCO or Ontario's website), or download the PDF and print an exact copy. The finder tells you which, how many and where. See Ontario's No smoking, no vaping signs for businesses.
- The size check page
- No smoking and No vaping signs are at least 10 cm by 10 cm each, or 15 cm high by 20 cm wide as one combined sign, at every entrance, exit and washroom. Ontario warns that a sign printed from the PDF can come out smaller than that. Print the size check page at 100% and lay your sign over the frame: if it doesn't cover it, print it bigger.
- Security cameras
- The Privacy Commissioner of Canada's guidance is a clear notice before people come in, with someone to contact about the cameras or to ask for footage of themselves. Sound shouldn't be recorded unless there's a real need, and recordings are kept only as long as they're needed. See Video surveillance by businesses.
- Inspection notices
- In Toronto, food premises post the latest DineSafe notice at or near the main entrance, and personal service settings post their BodySafe notice where the public can see it. Region of Waterloo publishes its inspection results online instead. Elsewhere, ask your public health unit. See About DineSafe.
- With staff
- Every employer posts the Prevention Starts Here poster and a copy of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and gives each worker the employment standards poster within 30 days of starting. With more than five workers regularly employed, your health and safety policy and your violence and harassment policies go up too; with a joint health and safety committee, its members' names and work locations. See Posters required in the workplace.
- The first aid station
- Employers WSIB covers keep a first aid station with the box, the In case of injury poster (Form 82), an inspection card for the box and a list of who's trained. See WSIB's first aid requirements.
- What it doesn't cover
- Exit signs, fire safety plans and occupancy limits are your fire department's to set, and patio, sidewalk and sign permits are your city's. Anything the finder couldn't settle from official sources is marked "verify".
