Renovation contract

Turn the estimate they said yes to into the written contract: the price and taxes, what's paid when, the dates and the terms. Both sign on your phone, and signed at their home it prints with their rights and counts their 10 days to cancel.

How it works

  1. 1 Pick the job they said yes to. The contract is made from its estimate: the lines, the taxes, the total, the dates, the deposit and the terms come across.
  2. 2 Say where it's signed, put in what's missing, and split the price into payments. The panel ticks off what a written contract has to say.
  3. 3 Hand them the phone to read it and sign with a finger, then you sign. Or print it, both sign the paper, and mark it signed. Either way it's locked.
  4. 4 The panel counts the days that matter: their 10 days to cancel, when the work has to start, and if they cancel, when the refund is due. A change after that goes on a change order.

Signed in, each contract is kept on its job in your account, for you only: never in a link, a log or an AI prompt, and it's in your export. The customer's name and address are read from your customers when you print it, and aren't kept in the contract. It prints as a PDF made on our server from what's kept. Signed out, the page shows a made-up job that's never kept.

Good to know

What does a renovation contract have to say?
Ontario's guide for home renovation and roofing businesses says a consumer contract over $50 has to be in writing, with your business's name, address and contact details, a fair description of the work and the materials, the itemized price with the taxes, when the work starts and finishes, and how and when they pay. The guide also asks for warranties, sub-trades, clean-up, permits and how changes are handled. The checklist beside the contract follows it.
Signed at their home?
A contract signed with a person anywhere but your place of business is a direct agreement. They can cancel it for any reason within 10 days after they get their written copy, and it has to carry the statement of their rights, word for word, with a notice on the first page saying where it is. The printed contract does both, from O. Reg. 17/05. Don't start the work in those 10 days unless they ask you to in writing. If they cancel, you refund what they paid within 15 days.
How big a deposit?
Ontario's guide tells homeowners to be careful about paying more than 10% up front, so a bigger deposit can lose you the job. The panel says when the first payment is over 10% of the price. The payments have to add up to the total before it can be signed.
Furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters
In Ontario, a contract for these and some related products can't be signed in the customer's home unless the customer contacted you first to ask for it (verify which products count). When the estimate is for that kind of work and you sign at their home, the panel asks.
Something changed after it was signed?
A signed contract can't be edited, so what they agreed to is always what's on file. Write the change on a change order slip and have them sign that: "Write a change" takes the job there.
Is this legal advice?
Guidance, not legal advice. It's based on Ontario's consumer rules as checked in October 2026. Other provinces have their own rules for contracts signed at home, and work for a business is different again. Have a lawyer look over your terms once, and check anything you're unsure of.
