How it works

  1. 1 Say what kind of work you do. The estimate starts with the usual lines for it, with no prices: you fill those in.
  2. 2 Price each line your way: type the price, or let your hourly rate or your markup on cost work it out. Your cost and wage stay on your side; customers never see them.
  3. 3 Want to offer a choice? Turn on good, better and best, tick which lines go in each, and mark the one you recommend.
  4. 4 Print the estimate for the customer, a job sheet with a shopping list for you, and a change form for when the job grows.

Free, with no account. Everything is worked out on this page: the customer, the job and the dates are never sent to us, put in a link or saved. Remember keeps only your business details and your lines, on this device, and only while it's on.

Good to know

What's Ontario's 10% rule?
When a consumer contract includes an estimate, Ontario's Consumer Protection Act says you can't charge more than 10% above it unless the customer agrees to the extra or different work. The panel shows where that line sits for your estimate, and the “If the job changes” tab checks a new price against it and prints a change form for the customer to sign. The check is on the price before tax. Protecting consumer rights and safety
Estimate or quote?
People use both words for the same thing. What matters is what the paper says: an estimate in Ontario carries the 10% line, so the printout says it's an estimate and, if you leave the promise on, says so in plain words.
What should a written contract say?
In Ontario a consumer contract over $50 for work done later has to be in writing. The checklist in the panel follows Ontario's guide for home renovation and roofing businesses: who you are, an itemized description, warranties, the total with taxes, start and finish dates, sub-trades, payment terms and cleanup. For other kinds of work it's a sound list too.
Signed at the customer's home?
Then they can cancel within 10 days after they get their written copy, and some products, like furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters, can only be sold at the home if the customer contacted you first (verify which products count). Ontario explains it in its rules for contracts in a consumer's home.
Markup or margin?
Markup is added on top of your cost; margin is the share of the price that's left after it. A 50% markup on $100 of materials makes $150, and that's a 33% margin, not 50%. The “Markup and margin” tab turns one into the other, so you can price to the margin you meant.
Which tax goes on the estimate?
If you're registered, GST or HST at your province's rate, with PST on top where it applies, usually on materials. Small suppliers under $30,000 a year in sales don't have to register (verify), and then charge no GST/HST. CRA's rates calculator has the rate for each province.
How big a deposit?
Ontario's renovation guide warns customers about large deposits. Many businesses ask for 10% or less, or enough to cover materials they have to order. For renovation work, the tool points out a deposit over 10% so you can decide.
Is this legal advice?
Guidance, not legal advice. It's based on Ontario's consumer rules and CRA's rates as checked in October 2026. Other provinces have their own consumer laws, and selling to a business is different again. Check anything you're unsure of with a lawyer or your province.
