Snow removal contract

Write one place's winter down before the first snow: what's cleared, the snow that starts a visit, when it's done by and how it's paid. They sign on your phone, each payment is billed when it's due, and the visits it pays for are never billed twice.

How it works

  1. 1 Pick the place. A contract is for one place, and a new one starts from your last contract's terms, with no price: each place is priced on its own.
  2. 2 Say what's cleared, how much snow starts a visit, and when it's done by. Pick how it's paid: one price for the season, the season up to a number of snowfalls, or by the visit.
  3. 3 Hand them the phone to sign with a finger, or mark it signed from a printed copy. Once signed, it's locked as signed.
  4. 4 Each payment is billed when it comes due, one tap to the invoice. The snow and salt log's visits the contract pays for are left off the invoice, and the ones past it are billed by the visit.

Signed in, the contract is kept on its place in your account, for you only: never in a link, a log or an AI prompt, and it's in your export. The customer's name and the place's address on a printed copy are read from your book when you print it, and aren't kept on the contract. Signed out, everything works on a made-up place, and nothing is kept.

Good to know

What should a snow contract say?
The places most arguments start: what's cleared (and what isn't), how much snow starts a visit, when it's done by, what salting costs, what happens to the city plow's ridge at the end of the driveway, and how either of you ends it. Write them down before the first snow, while nobody's waiting at a window.
A season price, a cap, or by the visit?
A season price is steady money for you and a known bill for them, but a heavy winter is on you. A cap shares that: the price covers a number of snowfalls, and each one after is billed by the visit. By the visit is fair to both and harder to plan. The panel shows what the price works out to for each snowfall as the winter goes, and the snow pricing calculator shows which way pays in a light or a heavy winter.
Someone slipped. What then?
In Ontario, someone hurt on snow or ice generally has to give written notice within 60 days to the occupier and to the contractor clearing it, with the date, time and place (verify the details and the exceptions: Occupiers' Liability Act, s. 6.1). Keep your snow and salt log with the contract; it's the record of when you were there. Tell your insurer the same day a notice arrives.
Does a finger signature on a phone count?
Electronic signatures are generally accepted for agreements like this one (verify for your province and your contract). It's kept with the name, the date and how it was signed, and printed on the contract. If you'd rather have ink, print it, have them sign, and mark it signed on paper.
Next winter?
“Start next winter's” writes the same deal a year on, to look over and sign again. Last winter's visits stay paid for by last winter's contract, so they're never billed by mistake.
Is this legal advice?
A plain-language starting point, not legal advice. The terms are yours to change, and it's worth having a lawyer look over the ones you use every year.
